The Safe Use Diisocyanates Newsletter keeps you informed on the latest developments around the restriction on diisocyanates and the ISOPA training platform.

Our new SuD newsletter is out!
This is the first edition of the SuD newsletter! The newsletter is intended for all diisocyanates safety trainers and training participants. ISOPA training platform
New training material
ISOPA is proud to say almost 800.000 workers have registered online via our digital training platform. In addition to that, many have been trained via internal and external trainers, other online platforms, and companies conducting training internally.  Already around 1 Million workers are estimated to have been trained directly or indirectly via ourselves, our partners, and our network.   At the moment, we are reviewing our training material and we plan to launch our version 2.0 in by mid-2025, language by language first covering the top 20 most used trainings.   We are also excited to share that we intend to further expand the training to a global scale to deliver valuable training to workers worldwide. The globalization would include the addition of new languages and websites. More information on this will be provided as the project progresses.
Our SUD Chatbot is available to help

Trainer news
Train-the-Trainer expiry of certificates
It has now been more than one year since we launched our Train-the-Trainer program, offering full-day seminars for people to become certified safety experts on diisocyanates. ISOPA has since created a network of over 200 trainers across Europe.   For those who participated in the Train-the-Trainer programme, your certificates are valid for a period of 3 years, contrary to the normal training certificate which is valid for 5 years. Before your trainer certificate expires, you will be notified. Once your certificate has expired, you will be offered a renewal course at a reduced rate! Further information on this will follow soon.
Regulatory updates
Germany
In Germany, the Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (BAuA) REACH Helpdesk expressed support for digital training with regard to the REACH restriction on diisocyanates. In particular, the BAuA Helpdesk indicated that, whilst depending on the type of training that is required, online learning is a suitable method next to face-to-face training.   In addition, the German Federal/State Chemical Safety Working Group (Bund/Länder-Arbeitsgemeinschaft Chemikaliensicherheit (BLAC)) published guidelines on diisocyanate safety training under REACH. The guidelines indicated that the training can be completed online without a trainer present, but that there should be the possibility for communication between participants and a trainer. Moreover, BLAC included additional requirements on training certificates. ISOPA updated our certificates to meet these requirements.
Italy
The Italian Federation of the chemical industry (FEDERCHIMICA) stated, with regard to self eLearning, that a qualified trainer should be available to provide responses to potential questions by participants during or after the training and to verify and validate possible final tests aiming to verify whether the content of the training has been understood by participants.
Austria
The Austrian authorities expressed that enforcement of the diisocyanates restriction will be a priority in the country. In line with this priority, the authorities are currently conducting a case study to determine how may companies are participating in the restriction.
Denmark
In Denmark, the diisocyanates REACH restriction has been integrated into the existing Epoxy and Diisocyanate Licence scheme.
