But which chain extender for which application is the best?
Technical presentation: Dr. Ralf Fritz, BASF Polyurethanes GmbH
Abstract
Elasturan 6095 is a newly developed cast elastomer polyurethane system, which was developed due to the increasing requirements of the wheel/roller market in particular (longer running times, higher speeds and greater loads) and the mining industry (high mechanical resilience with simultaneous improved hydrolysis stability). In addition to the standard chain extender Butanediol, the “more demanding” HQEE (hydroquinone bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ether) was also investigated during the development. The resulting morphologies and resulting properties were examined. The different “advantages and disadvantages” of the system with Butanediol or HQEE, taking into account the process requirements/possibilities at the PU processor, ultimately decide which formulation will be the “system of choice” for an application.
